Individual Plan for Island Health and Nursing Practicum

Sachiko Morishima

Purpose

1. To learn the relationship with mainland U.S.A in nursing continuing education.
2. To learn how to use the strength of island community for nursing education.
3. To learn the collaboration of health professionals in patient care.
4. To learn the roles of nursing profession in health, medical and educational facilities.
5. To learn the health care system for mothers and children in islands and the effort of making it better.
6. To learn the opportunity to expand your mother-and-child care, and the viewpoint of evaluation of practice.

Goals

1. Guam

1) To learn about health status of the people in Guam, nursing care delivery situation, basic and continuing nursing education in Guam.
2) To learn about nurses乫 roles by knowing the roles and functions of health centers in Guam and Guam Memorial Hospital, nurses乫 activities and education for nurses.
2. Saipan/Tinian
1) To learn about health status of the people in NMI, nursing care delivery situation, basic and continuing nursing education in NMI
2) To learn the community care system and health problems of mothers and children through the lecture by a health administrator, through looking on nurses乫 practices in HC or attending at home visit nursing.
3) To learn the opportunity to expand your mother-and-child care, and the viewpoint of evaluation of practice through interview for nurses.

Contents

1. Guam
1) University of Guam:
(1) The viewpoint of evaluation in nursing classes in UOG.
(2) Continuing education for developing nurses and nursing leaders.
(3) Actual conditions of mother-and-child care compared with that in mainland U.S.A.
2) Guam Central Public Health and Social Services/Guam Memorial Hospital
(1) Roles of nursing profession and its evaluation.
(2) Care for mothers with anxiety and troubles, especially by collaboration with other health professions.
(3) Collaboration between nurses in a hospital and nurses in community at patient dischargment.

2. Saipan
Commonwealth Health Center
(1) Health care system for mothers and children (lecture by a health administrator)
(2) Practices for developing the health level of mothers and children (individual and group care, conferences and education programs for developing nursing care)
(3) Opportunities to expand your mother-and-child care, practice of nursing care and the viewpoint of evaluation of the practice.
(4) Development and activation of citizens乫 groups in communit.

3. Tinian
(1) Health care system for mothers and children (lecture by a health administrator)
(2) Practices for developing the health level of mothers and children (individual and group care, conferences and education programs for developing nursing care)
(3) Opportunities to expand your mother-and-child care, practice of nursing care and the viewpoint of evaluation of the practice.
(4) Development and activation of citizens乫 groups in communit.
